Benita has a deep passion for the environment as a nature lover. She has a background in marine biology and conducted research throughout Indonesia, Australia and Mexico as an underwater scientist. Throughout her career she has worked relentlessly to incorporate environmental elements in her projects. She curated the Save the Sharks campaign with Ocean Geography Society in 2011, with over 1000 students and leading scientist Dr. Sylvia Earle. In summer 2015, she led 10 students from the Youth Arch Foundation to explore life in the Indonesian wilderness, and produced videos on fair trade, sustainable development and orangutans.

Benita has subsequently managed Earthwatch’s citizen science program in the APAC region, and curated the Miffy and the Ocean Exhibition in the Science Museum in 2017.

Benita is now an underwater ambassador for Ecomarine, and recently qualified as a trainer for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by the SDG Academy. Benita founded Encompass HK in 2018 to promote the SDGs, and curated the TEDxEncompassHK in 2020 to raise awareness on climate change. Benita also teaches the SDGs part-time at the University of Hong Kong since September 2022.
