Screen Shot 2016-03-28 at 3.37.13 AMBenita got her NAUI Dive Instructor license at age 18 and went on to study undergrad in biology at Cornell University, during which she spent a year at the world-renowned marine biology institute, James Cook University.  She subsequently pursued her Masters at Boston University in genetic research on sea cucumbers in Indonesia. She is also now a NAUI and PADI Open Water Instructor as well as American Academy of Underwater Sciences (AAUS) diver with experiences in technical diving, cave diving and dry suit diving.  While Benita no longer actively conducts academic researches, she applies her marine biology knowledge and scuba diving skills to teach coral reef biology and conservation to local youngsters. She has taught marine naturalist courses to teenagers and guided them to develop personal projects on different marine animals.

Benita has been featured in local media for her passion in diving in a TVB Pearl Money Magazine Interview (July 2016), as well as TVB Jade interview on her expertise as a Reef Check scientist (June 2017).
